What Makes You Come Alive?

“Being an artist has something to do with being brave enough to move toward what makes you come alive.” Emily Freeman A Million Little Ways Pg. 20

What makes you come alive?

Being alive is becoming real and this doesn’t happen overnight.  Real isn’t how I am made,’ it’s a thing that happens to me. I’m realizing more and more everyday how much God loves me.

I’m beautiful in God’s eyes no matter what. Jesus died for my sins so that I may have life. It’s in His resurrection that I’m alive. I’m so thankful and my heart dances with a burning desire to serve.

Serving my children and husband is my art. I’m creating memories one brush stroke at a time.

“Art means believing that the God who created the world with words alone creates with words still, through us — whether it be on a stage to thousands or in a corner with one. “Emily Freeman A Million Little Ways, Pg. 20

I think it’s hard to be authentic when we don’t feel real and loved. I want to love others with a pure heart.

The Velveteen Rabbit is an adorable story about becoming real. I can relate and maybe you can too.

The Velveteen Rabbit Quotes (showing 1-16 of 16)

“Real isn’t how you are made,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.’ ‘Does it hurt?’ asked the Rabbit. ‘Sometimes,’ said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. ‘When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.’ ‘Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,’ he asked, ‘or bit by bit?’ ‘It doesn’t happen all at once,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.” Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit

“Art is what happens when you dare to be who you really are. You have the power to influence, to move, to make, to become.” Emily Freeman, A Million Little Ways, Pg. 21

My six year old boy and five year old daughter are creative, talented, loving, and of course little rascals at times. They are God’s amazing creation. I’m on a mommy mission every day to raise world shakers and history makers.   My desire is to encourage my kids to seek Jesus for direction as we observe His life and to Love others. God’s love is what makes me come alive and I depend on Him to breathe His creative art right through me.

I make parenting mistakes all the time. We all do. It’s all right. We are learning.

Our kids are learning.

But, at the end of the day can we say, “Yes I loved and my love is what makes others feel real.”

My love towards others makes me come alive!!!

Mommas what we do matters!

    • Hi Betsy!!! Serving is a beautiful thing isn’t it. Especially when we do it in the light of God’s forever love. His love is contagious. I can’t help but want to serve, because He so graciously serves us. Blessings to you Betsy on this day. The day that the Lord has made!!!!!

  1. This is so encouraging, Lisa. I love Emily’s and Velveteen Rabbit’s quotes. And this really touched the longings in my heart – “God’s love is what makes me come alive and I depend on Him to breathe His creative art right through me.” How very true! We need Him so much! Thank you for sharing this and for visiting my blog so I could find this today. 🙂
