I don’t like surprises. I am not a spur-of-the-moment person. I like to make plans. I like to know what is going to happen. I like to be prepared.

Not knowing what is going to happen tends to cause anxiety.

I need God to help me with this.

James tells us in chapter 4, verses 13 – 16 (NLT), “Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog – it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to; we will live and do this or that.’ Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.”

Truth be…we can make all the plans we want, but we really never know what is going to happen. Everything can be changed in an instant.

Jesus gave an example of a man who was rich and stored away much for years to come. Yet, the man died before he expected and all the earthly wealth he had was worth nothing to him anymore. Jesus went on to say “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life – whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to Him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need.”

Jesus even had to reprimand Peter once, telling him that he was seeing things merely from a human point of view, and not from God’s. God’s ways are not our ways. His thoughts are far above ours.

Much of life is a process for those of us who have chosen to follow Christ. It is called FAITH. The evidence of what we cannot see. The daily dying to self. The daily surrender to God. Letting go of your own plans in surrender to His. Seeking Him first. Then you will have true LIFE.

I want to look beyond my human point of view. I need my thoughts renewed by the Spirit.
