Are you attached? Are you plugged in? By Angel Buff

plugged inLike any “good mother,” I have taught my daughter the dangers of playing with certain things. One day in particular rings back to memory. She sat in front of an old box fan, which was turned off at the time, and she recounted to me why she was not allowed to play with such a thing. I agreed with what she told me, and praised her for knowing better, but also explained to her that, at the moment, it would not even turn on because it was not plugged into the outlet (i.e. the power source). She –like she enjoys so much– began to argue with me that it would indeed turn on, if I would only turn the switch on. At which point she got a lesson on electrical power, while I got a lesson on spiritual power.

(Luke 6:19, NKJV) And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.

Firstly, what does the word ‘power’ here really mean?
‘Power’ is from the Greek (Strong’s number 1411) dunamis or δύναμις
This word means: force, specially, miraculous power, ability, abundance, might, power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work.

“…power went out from Him…”

And looking back to the beginning of the verse:

“…the whole multitude sought to touch Him…”

‘Sought’ is from the Greek (Strong’s number 2212) zeteo or ζητέω
This word means: to seek, to desire, to worship.

‘Touch’ is from the Greek (Strong’s number 680) haptomai or ἅπτομαι
This word means: properly, to attach oneself to.

All the people who knew who Jesus was and knew of His great power desired Him and they searched Him out with everything in them, pressing through, worshiping Him and therefore attaching themselves to Him…

You must be attached to the ‘power source’ in order to be fueled from the power supply – you have to be attached, in order to be useful.

(John 15:1-5, NKJV) “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. [2] Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. [3] You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. [4] Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. [5] “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

If you are not attached to Him, you can do nothing.

(Luke 10:19-20, NKJV) “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.[20] Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.

‘Authority’ used here means privilege, force and capacity, which has been delegated. You must be attached to and governed by the One who delegates.

How do we get plugged in? How do we attach ourselves to Him?  By being intentional, by pressing through our circumstances, by truly seeking Him out, by truly desiring Him, by worshiping Him in spirit and in truth (Reference above, Jeremiah 29:13, and John 4:24).

We touch Him by seeking/desiring Him, by worshiping Him, with our whole being.

I will leave you with one more scripture:

(Luke 8:46, NKJV) But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.”

Are you attached, plugged in? Or do you find yourself …a bit detached?
