I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move… ~Matthew 17:20

She sits over the stillness of her husband frailty. She prays. She cries out to her God to heal the disease that has been slowly pulling the threads from the fabric of his life.

She asks. She seeks. She believes.

…Her husband dies.

 

Her one desire is to bear her own child. After years of struggle, she continues to hope. Her faith waivers in moments, but is never fully shaken. She believes that God wants to and will give her this longing of her heart.

She lives out the remainder of her childbearing years in faith.

…It’s a faith that never sees manifestation.

 

These two women held mustard seeds.

They both believed. They both had hope.

They both had faith.

Many times they had cast their seeds at the mountain placed in front of them – but the mountain never moved.

Why? Oh God, why?

Doesn’t Your Word say that faith like a mustard seed can move mountains?

Isn’t it Your desire to answer our prayers? Especially the prayers prayed in faith?

Yes. The answer is yes.

So the question rises..

Why do mustard seeds, sometimes not move mountains?

This is a question to which the circumstances of life demand an answer. This is a question that I can spend my lifetime asking.

This is a question to which I have no answer.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. ~Isaiah 55:8

I must believe that if my faith does not move a mountain, then that mountain must be standing for a purpose.

There must be a lesson upon the obstacles it presents.

There must be refining in the depths of its crevices.

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. ~James 1:2-3

There must be some goodness God means to impart into my life.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him
~Romans 8:28

There must be some holy character to etch into my soul.

For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son ~Romans 8:29

When standing in front of an immovable mountain, is not the time to lean on my own understanding.

This is the time to trust even harder.

fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the
revelation of Jesus Christ. ~1 Peter 1:3

To trust God fully with the details of my story, and to direct my hope to the final page He has already written.

The page that says we will soon be standing in the presence of Glory.

The page that says our faith will soon be fully realized and fully experienced.

The page that says there will one day be no more mountains to cast our mustard seeds towards.

This is the hope that gives us the strength to face our mountains – whether they move or whether they stand.
