I love to pray! I have learned over the years the importance of developing a prayer life. We have this amazing privilege to be able to talk to God in the name of Jesus Christ! It is such a gift!
One of my favorite verses is James 5:16 which says “Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” (NASB)
My husband and I have tried to pray together. We have been inconsistent most of our marriage. Just like everything else in our lives and walk with Christ, we must be intentional.
This morning my husband called me. He had been really tired, worn, and just struggling. We talked for awhile and as were talking my mind continued to fill with all we talked about and I began feeling overwhelmed as well. He wanted to take some time to pray.
My flesh was fighting for some reason. I couldn’t understand why except for the fact I felt overwhelmed in that moment.
I prayed first and I just acknowledged who God was and handed over all that was in our minds and hearts to Him. I prayed for my husband and for the things we had talked about. My husband prayed for me and for some things we had talked about and even things I had thought about but hadn’t said out loud.
It was so freeing. We both felt peaceful and ready to start our day. We were more unified than when we began our conversation.
I was reminded how important this was for us individually but also our marriage.
In Ephesians 6:18 it says that “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the spirit and with this in view, be on the alert with all petition and perseverance for all the Saints.”
Prayer is part of the Armor of God!!
It is part of what God has given us to use to fight for our marriages, to guard and protect our marriages.
There are many marriages are struggling. Life, busyness, and past baggage get in the way. God wants to see marriages strong and healthy. He wants this so much He has give us ways to intentionally do that.
Prayer is one of them.
I encourage you to take time to pray with your spouse this week. Whether it is one day or five days. My husband and I spent twenty minutes praying this morning and it changed our whole day!
